Have you ever stayed up all night to rush your assignment or project? Or maybe you have one of those long heart-to-heart chats with your friend on the phone till late night? Well, I have experienced those things before. But the issue here is that these late night activities do not occur once in a while or only sometimes for me. It happens on a regular and almost permanent basis in my life.

I am not going to classify this habit of mine a bad one, at least not yet. I actually really like staying up and awake at nights. When I am awake at those unearthly hours, there is usually not much external distraction. The air is cooler, so the weather will not be unbearably hot which will make me sweat. There is no random passerby/friend to interrupt my thought processes. The surroundings also seem more at peace than during the day, perhaps because things seem more still. The feeling is a bit like having the whole room or space to myself, and even the time seems to move a little slower (but actually, the contrary is true). I get to sing my favourite songs without feeling embarrassed. I get to sit in unglam positions, but nobody will notice. And most importantly, if I have the momentum, I can really accomplish several tasks in one night. So basically, you get a lot of freedom and very little distraction when you are awake and working at night.

But then again, to many others, such a body clock sounds totally absurd. And I have to agree to a certain extent. On some nights, I unknowingly stayed awake all the way to morning before falling asleep. Before I know it, by the time I wake up, it is near dinner time! It’s like I have wasted one whole day. Even though I know I will be awake late at night, there is less time to go out, to meet friends, to play, to chit-chat, to eat proper meals, etc. Furthermore, sometimes I feel lethargic and the whole night goes wasted. Recently, because of a prolonged period of late-night sleeping, I get tired at 12 midnight, doze off and then wake up again after one or two hours in the middle of the night. The next sleeping timing for me will be 9am in the morning. Isn’t that screwed up or what?

Well... I have been having this sleeping habit since about 4 years ago; it is really hard to change. My only worry is whether I am able to convert back to a normal sleeping routine when I find a job in the future. For now, I am still happy about my sleeping timings, as long as I do not damage my body in any way. =)

    The Bitchy Dear Bushy,

It's so simple for you to not disrupt your current body clock, just get graveyard jobs!

I strongly suggest security guard jobs. First, it's damn slack, plenty of time for you to enjoy the quietness and peacefulness of the night. Second, it might motivate you to work out more to be the ideal security guy. Third, you can scare trespassers away with your bushy eyebrows.

    xoxo.
