Two major reports have been out for the past few days both online and in print. I couldn't comment much on the news because the descriptions and information are pretty vague. However, it is still very thought-provoking as it reflects how cruel life sometimes can be.
Shopping vouchers might be a minor issue, but what exactly are the illegal funds involved remains the greatest mystery to date. Yet, the sum of nearly $200k questions us on the intention of greed given that the monthly income is allegedly reported to be a hefty $15k.
Putting aside the agenda and motive involved, this incident clearly shows how quickly someone can be easily defamed despite having spent 10 years of his life dedicated to doing good. Yes yes yes... I know that the intention of doing good can also be questioned but seriously... it's not easy to maintain a charity organization without a certain degree of passion that might or might not be reciprocated in one way or another. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I believe that setting up the fund itself is already an act of contributing back to the society.
Whatever it is, imagine all the hardwork and sweat involved in the process going down the drain only to be reciprocated with insults like "cheater" and "corrupted" . It remains a horrifying thought that it takes forever for the public to be aware of charitable events like ChildAid doing "good" for the society, but only one day to garner nationwide attention when you do "bad".
Similarly, when you present your resume during an interview for example, hardly anyone notices how marvellous you were in the past only to judge you based on your recent achievements. You might be so smart in the past, but failing one major subject recently is enough to classify you as among the failures right now. The reality remains that people will always judge you based on what you look like now and what you have been doing now. Ideally, a fairer judgement should be based on your present and past to give a more accurate picture of a person's personality. But nowadays, who bothers to find out more?
On the other hand, this might not be a bad thing given that your present is very much more successful than you are in the past. People will forget how pathetic you were and create a whole new mental image of you!
Life can be both cruel and kind - just, when?
